About Us

The Paranormal Society for Historically Informed Ghost Hunting is dedicated to the discovery and study of ghosts in a wide range of historical settings. Members of the Society engage in two related activities: they seek out ghosts using traditional research methods and technologies, and they investigate how ghosts are socially constructed, including how they, as investigators, participate in a centuries-old craft. The Society’s approach to ghost hunting is informed by a number of theoretical frameworks (symbolic interactionism and experimental ethnography in particular). It is founded on the belief that the presence of ghosts and the meaning of ghosts are inseparable and that both should be pursued with equal rigor.
